Stick Hearts

My Mom and I saw this stick heart and decided to make our own for our outdoor spaces.  She covered her heart with red spray paint and attached the sticks with floral wire.

I painted each stick a different color with acrylic paint 

and used 18 gauge jewelry wire to attach it.  

Heart Postcards

Below are my latest postcards for my postcard project and Baci and Dziadziu, respectively.  I used a Martha Stewart Crafts Heart Punch, paint chips and an old note card for the hearts (and the little birdie in the right-hand corner), scrapbook paper for the state of California and background, and Modge Podge.

California Love - too bad Baci and Dziadziu won't understand the Tupac reference.  

The state flag has a bear on it,  so I added one here too.  Can you find it?

To Boston With Love Flags

On Saturday my Mom and I completed and mailed our flags for the To Boston With Love flag project.  Hundreds of quilters from around the world created flags to shower the Boston community with peace and love.  Thanks to the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild for organizing this amazing project, which will be displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from May 25th through July 7th.

Vrksasana Dot Art Postcard

In Honor of Arbor Day and my yogi friend, I created this Vrksasana - tree pose - postcard for our April postcard project.  I traced my vrksasana cookie cutter and painted the dots with Q-tips; the technique is similar to this heart.

Valentine's Tree

I used the same Christmas tree branches for Valentine's/Anniversary tree. Our anniversary is the day after Valentine's Day so I created a heart for each year, as well as an I Love You ornament.

Paint Chip Heart Garland

 

I ❤ this heart garland that has had a home in our kitchen archway since last Valentine's Day or so, when I saw this pin. It was simple and easy to make with a Martha Stewart heart-punch, some paint chips, and red DMC floss. 

V Day Paint Chip Postcards

This year for Valentine's Day I sent handmade postcards to my parents and Baci and Dziadziu.  I used a Martha Stewart Crafts Heart Punch to make the paint chip hearts.

Stuffed Heart Doily

 

 

Look at the hand-made stuffed heart doily my mother sent us for Valentine's Day!  She re-purposed one of my great grandmother's doilies into a Valentine sachet.

Felt Hearts

I whipped up some quick and easy felt hearts for our Valentine's Day tree by looking at this picture.

You'll need:
felt
heart pattern (which I made out of recycled cardboard)
ribbon/twine
DMC floss (that matches or complements your felt)
batting 

Circular Felt Hearts

Our Christmas card tree is now a Valentine's Day tree filled with V-Day ornaments (more posts to come).

As a child, I had a turquoise, red, and white chevron bathing suit and my sister had a purple, white, and turquoise one.  The color combinations in these circular hearts remind me of those suits.

I made them with three different felt colors, DMC floss, batting, and 1/8" jute twisted cord.  You can find similar hearts here.

Button Heart

Using some wire, scissors, old buttons, and 1/8" jute twisted cord, I made this button heart thanks to this tutorial. 

Heart felt ornament

'Tis the season to decorate the Christmas tree and this year I am making felt ornaments.  

Here's my first one - a felt heart in red, olive, and white with an olive button. 

 I was inspired by this picture.

Folk Art Heart Cross stitch

I borrowed a bunch of my Mom's old cross stitch magazines and have been stitching away.  Here's my latest creation. This folk art heart is from the April/May 1990 edition of Cross Stitch Quick and Easy.
