I Love You Felt Ornament

I saw the I Love You (in sign language) ornament here and traced my own hand for M.  This ornament and several felt hearts were all placed on our Valentine's Day tree. 

Felt Hearts

I whipped up some quick and easy felt hearts for our Valentine's Day tree by looking at this picture.

You'll need:
felt
heart pattern (which I made out of recycled cardboard)
ribbon/twine
DMC floss (that matches or complements your felt)
batting 

Circular Felt Hearts

Our Christmas card tree is now a Valentine's Day tree filled with V-Day ornaments (more posts to come).

As a child, I had a turquoise, red, and white chevron bathing suit and my sister had a purple, white, and turquoise one.  The color combinations in these circular hearts remind me of those suits.

I made them with three different felt colors, DMC floss, batting, and 1/8" jute twisted cord.  You can find similar hearts here.

Felt Monster Ornament

While I was making our felt ornaments for our Christmas card tree, I asked M which ornament I should make next and he selected this monster from my Pinterest board. Isn't he so cute with his one off-center eye, red spikes, jagged tooth, and blue foot? There's a tutorial for a fabric and felt monster here. However, I didn't follow the tutorial; I made a few adjustments from the original picture/pattern and only used felt. 

What should we name our little felt monster?

Felt Christmas Tree Ornament

I'm on a roll with my ornaments - three in one night.  For this felt Christmas tree, I used three pieces of olive green felt for the tree tiers and magenta felt for the heart, similar to the design for this envelope; and I cut a circular piece of pink felt for the background like this simple felt tree. The rick rack, heart, and stitching around the outside all match.

'Tis the season to decorate the Christmas tree and this year I am making felt ornaments.  

Here's my first one - a felt heart in red, olive, and white with an olive button. 

 I was inspired by this picture.

Felt matrishka/matryoshka ornament

Growing up, I'd play with my Baci's nesting doll collection for hours.  I enjoyed taking the wooden dolls apart and lining them up from largest to smallest.  We call them matrishkas in Polish, but many people call them matryoshkas or babushkas.

When I went to Poland and Ukraine a few years ago, I bought my grandparents a few matrishkas from each country to add to their collection, since so many were lost or broken from all the years of us grandchildren playing with them.

For my Dziadziu's 86th birthday, a made him a felt matryoshka doll ornament from a pattern I saw on pinterest. I changed the flower in the middle to a heart flower and used complimentary DMC floss for the stitching, as well as a brown satin ribbon to hang the doll. I made another doll with yellow felt and pink rick rack at the top to display her. 

This green and red matrishka/matryoshka (yes, I will use the Polish and Ukrainian/Russian forms of the word on this blog) took me about 3+ hours to make and it is only about 6" high.  She is so super cute and was well worth the time!  Dziadziu adored her too!
